Margherita Chino

I am Margherita, a curious mathematician now devoted to causal analysis. I come from Italy, where I studied at one of the oldest universities in the world: the University of Padua. There, I completed both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics, right before moving to Freiburg to pursue my PhD.

The Institute for Sustainable Systems Engineering (INATECH) is my home department at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. I aim to contribute to the development of causal analysis as a support tool for AI in the context of critical infrastructure systems, where counterfactual questions can be particularly impactful for the future. My mathematical background supports me in this deep field of causality, starting from statistical formalism and extending to machine learning.

The FOURIER project touches many fields but connects everyone and everything towards a shared goal. Developing cross-sector communication is therefore essential, and this is why I particularly appreciate the project’s framework. I am very much looking forward to interdisciplinary collaboration both within and beyond the network.
