Lukas Böhm

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Energy Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2019, specializing in statistical traffic physics, focusing on highway traffic congestion. My bachelor and master theses analyzed traffic dynamics and model boundary conditions. Between my master’s studies and my PhD, I worked at an engineering company mitigating noise and vibration from railway tracks and construction sites.

My work as a PhD student within FOURIER project will focus on long-term structural health monitoring of bridges, specifically studying environmental and operational loads that influence measured data. Understanding these influences enables simpler and more accurate damage detection in structures.
I joined the external PhD program of the FOURIER project in collaboration with VCE (Vienna Consulting

Engineering ZT GmbH) because it bridges my interests in theoretical and academic research with applied engineering experience. The program allows me to combine my background in traffic physics, structural monitoring, and practical engineering applications in a meaningful, interdisciplinary research context.
